Introducing time-lapse generation

Create MP4 time-lapse videos from any active camera directly from your PanoraCast dashboard — no extra software needed.

What's new

We're excited to launch time-lapse generation for all PanoraCast cameras. You can now create MP4 time-lapse videos directly from your dashboard — no extra software, no manual frame extraction, no video editing required.

How it works

PanoraCast periodically extracts frames from your live HLS stream and stores them as snapshots. When you create a time-lapse job, the system assembles those frames into a smooth MP4 video at your chosen playback speed. The entire process runs in the background — you'll get a notification when your video is ready to download.

  • Frame extraction: automatic, configurable interval (10s to 1h)
  • Assembly: server-side FFmpeg encoding
  • Output: standard MP4, playable everywhere
  • Processing: runs in the background, no impact on live stream

Getting started

Navigate to any active camera in your dashboard, click the 'Time-lapse' tab, select your date range and playback speed, then hit 'Generate'. The system will queue the job and notify you when it's complete. Download the MP4 directly from the dashboard.

Use cases

Time-lapses are surprisingly versatile. Construction companies use them for progress documentation and client presentations. Event organizers create recap videos. Weather stations document cloud formations and storms. Retailers analyze foot traffic patterns. Any camera with a view that changes over time can produce compelling time-lapse content.

Best practices for great time-lapses

For the best results, use a stable mount (tripod or wall mount) and keep the camera powered continuously. A consistent frame interval produces smoother videos. For construction sites, one frame every 30 seconds is a good starting point. For slower processes, try one frame every 5–10 minutes.
